The end of Hamilton’s genealogy notes became more vague in detail as it drew closer to his birth. Perhaps this is since he knew the rest by memory, or its possible he did not have the time to finish. What ever the case may be, the information we do know at this point is that Capt. Jason Beckwith, born in 1764, married Naomi Calkins. They had a total of 10 children, which among them was Amy Beckwith. Amy Beckwith would then marry Anson Smith and give birth to Hamilton Lanphere Smith on November 5, 1818.
On October 6, 1990, Hobart & William Smith Colleges continued the Genealogy while also presenting the Distinguished Faculty Award to the decendants of Hamilton Lanphere Smith, John Towler, and Horace Webster. These corresponding documents, along with Hamilton’s handwritten Genealogy will be available for viewing under the Documents Tab at the top of each page.
